Welcome...
The Coon Rapids Lions Club is a local
community service organization whose members are part of the
International Association of Lions Clubs, the largest Service
Organization in the World, with a worldwide membership of over
1.4 million members in over 45,000 clubs located in over 200
countries or geographical regions. We, the Lions, enjoy working
to better the lives and well-being of all people in our community
through the education and research programs the Lions sponsor
for sight, hearing, diabetes and drug awareness. The Lions motto
is “We Serve”. Our mission statement is “To empower volunteers
to serve their communities, meet humanitarian needs, encourage
peace and promote international understanding through Lions
Clubs”.
Started in 1954, The Coon Rapids Lions Club has been a vital
part of the City and surrounding area. The Coon Rapids Lions
Club has been serving this area longer than any other service
organization in the community and five years prior to the incorporation
of the City of Coon Rapids. The Coon Rapids Lions Club is a
member of sub-district 5M-7, which is one of thirteen sub-districts
of Multiple District 5M (MD5M) that includes all of Minnesota,
Manitoba and Northwestern Ontario. District 5M-7 consists of
the clubs located in Anoka, Chisago, Isanti, Sherburne, Wright
and a portion of Washington counties. District 5M7 contains
nearly 2000 Lions, Lioness and Leos.
Our mission is to serve the needs of our community through a
wide range of volunteer projects. These projects are held throughout
the year and include: Spring Classic Golf Tournament & Dinner;
Wine & Epicurean Delights Extravaganza; Pancake Breakfasts for
Youth; Hooked on Fishing; Books for "Bango"; Bell Ringing for
the Salvation Army; White Cane Days; Lions Coon Creek Park;
“A Brush with Kindness”; Heels & Wheels Walk-A-Thon and many
others. The Coon Rapids Lions Club has supported such community
organizations as Mercy Hospital, Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Girl
Scouts, Coon Rapids Schools, Coon Rapids youth sports, Snowflake
Days, Anoka Ramsey Community College and Anoka Technical College.
In 1925, Helen Keller challenged the Lions to become “knights
of the blind in the crusade against darkness”. Since that time,
service to the blind and visually impaired has become one of
the most significant activities of Lions worldwide. Lions have
expanded their scope to include work for the hearing impaired,
those with diabetes, the mentally challenged, community welfare,
city celebrations and provide the understanding our youth require
in growing up in an environment of opportunity, where all youth
can excel at programs positively by using their energy and aspirations.
The Coon Rapids Lions Club works hard through their volunteering
activities to provide support towards all of the aforementioned
projects and more.
